President's Message

Dear Members of the Malaysia Spine Society (MSS),

I am deeply honoured to be elected as the President of the Malaysia Spine Society. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for entrusting me with this responsibility and for your continued support of our shared mission.

Stepping into this role, I am aware of the legacy I inherit. The past presidents and committees of MSS have laid a remarkable foundation through tireless dedication, visionary leadership, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in spine care. Their contributions have shaped MSS into a respected and thriving society, and I am humbled to follow in their footsteps.

My first commitment as President is to honour that legacy by continuing the initiatives they began, strengthening the structures they built, and ensuring that their vision remains alive and relevant. Continuity is not merely about preserving the past, it is about evolving with purpose, guided by the values that have brought us this far.

As MSS continues to grow in size, influence, and ambition, we find ourselves at a crossroads of opportunity. It is time to shift our mindset from individual expectations to collective empowerment. Rather than asking, “What can you do for the society?” or “What can the society do for you?”, I invite us to embrace a new question: “How can we, as a society, work together to make things better?”

This shift is more than rhetorical, it is foundational. A society thrives when its members are engaged, when ideas are shared freely, and when collaboration becomes our default mode. MSS is not just an organization; it is a community. And within this community lies immense potential: to advance research, improve clinical practice, support professional development, and advocate for better spine care across Malaysia. I believe that every member has something valuable to contribute.

Let us move forward together, united in purpose, driven by shared passion, and committed to making MSS not only a professional society, but a force for positive change in the lives of our patients, our colleagues, and our nation.

Thank you once again for this incredible honour. I look forward to serving you and working alongside each of you in the exciting journey ahead.

Assoc Prof Chiu Chee Kidd
